Macerator and Saniflo Repair

A macerator grinds and pumps toilet waste where there is not enough fall to reach the soil stack. When one stops pumping, hums, runs constantly or leaks, the cause is usually a blockage, a failed microswitch or membrane, or a worn motor. We repair macerators and pumped waste units across Surrey, South West London and Sussex.

Macerators are common in loft en-suites, basement and ground-floor cloakrooms, and in flats where a toilet has been added far from the stack. When one fails it is often the only toilet on that floor.

Switch the unit off at the fused spur before doing anything else. Many failures are caused by something that should not have been flushed — wipes, sanitary products or cotton buds — and clearing them is routine work.

What's included

  • Clearing blockages in the unit and discharge pipe
  • Units that hum but will not pump
  • Units that run on or start by themselves
  • Leaks from the unit, seals or discharge pipe
  • Microswitch, membrane and motor faults
  • Advice on repair versus replacement for older units

Common macerator faults

  • Unit hums but the water does not go down
  • Unit runs on, or starts on its own at intervals
  • Water rising in the shower tray or basin connected to it
  • Bad smells from the unit
  • Water leaking around the base of the toilet
  • Unit trips the electrics

How the job runs

  1. 1

    Make safe

The unit is isolated at the fused spur before it is opened.

  2. 2

    Diagnose

Blockage, switch, membrane, motor or discharge run — the cause is found first.

  3. 3

    Quote

If a part is needed, you are told the part and price before it is fitted.

  4. 4

    Repair and test

The repair is made and the unit tested through several cycles.

What it costs

Macerator repairs are charged as a call-out that includes the first hour on site — £99 standard hours (8am–6pm), £129 evenings (6pm–10pm) and Saturdays, £169 nights (10pm–8am), £149 Sundays and £199 bank holidays — with any further time at £95 per hour, plus parts. Where a replacement unit is the better option, we price it before ordering.
